Olivier Award
Benedict and Johnny have just won the Olivier Award!! I'm really surprised as I thought somebody else would win (esp. since it's been rather a while ago that they were onstage in London). This is a huge acknowledgement of their performances and the event that was Danny Boyle's Frankenstein production. It's pretty amazing that they both won the Evening Standard Award and the Oli in one year!

I'm really happy!

Wow. What a thrill for both of them!

Were they both at the ceremony?

From what i can see online, it doesn't look like BC made it but JLM was there. I think BC is still filming in LA on Star Trek 2.

Benedict was not there. JLM accepted his own award and he gave a lovely, down-to-earth speech thanking everyone involved in the production, with a special mention to the make-up artists who gave them both their 'monster' look for every show, the rest of the cast for -in essence- learning and appearing in two versions of the same play but with different lead actors and Danny Boyle for directing the play.

I'm glad that they won but I am really annoyed that it was on the red button on Sky as I had to work today and couldn't watch it from the start. This meant that I missed it being announced.

With four channels you'd think they could have found time to show it on TV.

But still, go them.

I have tickets for June to for both performances.

How thrilling--a fine cap to a spectacular year for Benedict. It's a shame he couldn't be there to accept--he's always so gracious. I'm hoping this will convince more theaters to screen the encore performances this June (so far, no one in my immediate area is doing so). Bravo to BC!

I am very happy about this well deserved award. Of course, even though we have Sky, I couldn't watch because I have 8 kids including 2 year old Triplets and a baby aged 8 months. Anyhow, husband and oldest were recoding something at the time. It's great however.

I'm so glad he (and Johnny) won. I am a sucker for award shows and watched it online, and I might have done a little victory dance when they announced it ;)

Congrats to both of them!! 2011 was indeed an eventful year for Benedict; in addition to winning the best actor awards at both of ES Theatre Awards and Olivier Awards, he also won Critics' Circle Theatre Awards, so it makes a triple crown for his performances in Frankenstein, very well done, Ben, very well done, and so well deserved...very happy for him.

ps:hmmm...I'm not trying to cause trouble, but it's "Jonny", not "Johnny"; it seems people are constantly confused on how to spell Jonny's first name, I just hope this can help clear things up a bit.
